Moab MTB Trip Cost 2026: Shuttles, Rentals, and a Week of Slickrock

Camping BLM to premium hotels, Poison Spider rentals to Whole Enchilada shuttles — here's what a Moab MTB trip actually costs in 2026, with sample 4-day budgets.

By Kevin

The Short Answer

A 4-day Moab MTB trip runs $400 to $1,800 per person depending on how you do it. Camp on BLM, bring your own bike, shuttle one day — ~$440. Rent from Poison Spider, hotel on Main Street, shuttle every day — ~$1,650. Flights, if you're not within driving distance, add $300–$550.

The single biggest lever is lodging. Peak-season spring and fall hotels on Main Street hit $250+ per night; Sand Flats and Willow Springs BLM camping is free or cheap. For most riders the sweet spot is a mid-tier hotel or vacation rental with two ride days shuttled — $900–$1,200 per person for 4 days.

Shuttles in Moab

Moab has more shuttle operators than any other destination we cover. Typical runs:

  • Whole Enchilada Shuttle: $35–$45 per person depending on season. Peak spring pricing is the upper end.
  • Coyote Shuttle: $40–$50 for most runs. Operating since 1995 — VW vans, BLM-permitted, books out weeks ahead in spring.
  • Hazard County Shuttle and Big Rack Shuttle: $35–$50 across the classic lineup (Porcupine Rim, Whole Enchilada, Mag 7, Kokopelli sections).
  • Moab Cyclery Shuttle: Bundled with rentals — discount when you book bike + shuttle together.

Tipping: $5–$10 per person per run.

Book shuttles before you book lodging. This is the most-made mistake. Shuttle availability drives the trip; lodging flexes around it.

Bike Rentals in Moab

Three flagship shops:

  • Poison Spider Bicycles: Premium fleet — Santa Cruz, Yeti, Specialized. $100–$160 / day for enduro or long-travel trail. Reserve 2–3 weeks ahead in spring.
  • Chile Pepper Bike Shop: Trek and Specialized. $85–$130 / day. Slightly more availability on short notice.
  • Moab Cyclery: Largest fleet in town. $75–$120 / day. They also run shuttles — bundle for a discount.

Multi-day discounts are 10–20% off for 3+ days at all three.

Flying with your own bike makes sense if you own a 140mm+ trail or enduro bike. Round-trip bike fees ($50–$150 each way) clear four days of premium rentals at current rates. Hardtails and XC bikes struggle in Moab — the rock eats them.

Lodging in Moab

Prices swing hard with season. Peak is late March to mid-May and late September to early November.

  • BLM camping (Sand Flats, Willow Springs, dispersed): Free to $20 / night. Sand Flats has vault toilets and fire rings; reserve at Willow Springs.
  • Improved campgrounds (Moab KOA, Up the Creek): $35–$60 / night.
  • Budget motels (Super 8, Motel 6 on the outskirts): $100–$160 / night peak, $70–$100 off-season.
  • Mid-tier hotels (Hampton Inn, Aarchway Inn): $180–$280 / night peak.
  • Premium (Hoodoo Moab, Gonzo Inn, SpringHill Suites): $280–$450 / night peak.
  • Vacation rentals (3-bedroom): $280–$500 / night. Often the best value for groups of 4–6.

Food and Fuel

  • Groceries and cooking at camp: $25–$35 / person / day. City Market on Main is the main grocery.
  • Casual meals (Moab Diner, Milt's Stop & Eat): $15–$25 per meal.
  • Sit-down (Desert Bistro, Sunset Grill): $35–$60 per person per meal.
  • Post-ride beer (Moab Brewery): $8–$12 / pint. Flight nights add up fast.

Fuel: $60–$120 for the trip unless you're driving from out of state. You'll put miles on driving to trailheads even when shuttling — Sand Flats, Mag 7, Kokopelli drops are all 15–45 minutes out of town.

Sample Moab Budgets (4 Days, Per Person)

Bootstrap Budget — $440

  • Shuttle (Porcupine Rim, 1 day): $40
  • Camping (Sand Flats BLM, 4 nights): $60
  • Groceries + casual food: $260
  • Fuel and misc: $80
  • Own bike, no flight costs included

Mid-Tier — $1,150

  • Rentals (enduro, 4 days, multi-day discount): $440
  • Shuttles (3 days — Porcupine, Whole Enchilada, Mag 7): $135
  • Mid-tier hotel (double occupancy, 4 nights): $380
  • Food mix: $200

Premium — $1,900

  • Poison Spider premium rental (4 days): $560
  • Daily shuttles (4 days, some longer runs): $180
  • Premium hotel (single occupancy, 4 nights): $900
  • Restaurant-heavy food: $260

Add $350–$550 round-trip for airfare to Grand Junction (nearest major airport, 1h45m drive) or Salt Lake City (3h45m drive).

When to Go for the Best Value

  • Late March: Shuttles are open, hotels cheaper than peak April, crowds lighter. Weather is a coin flip.
  • Early November: Fall weather is the best of the year, crowds thinning. Book before mid-October for shoulder pricing.
  • Skip June–August: Not because of cost — because 100°F heat on Porcupine Rim is miserable.

Where to Save, Where to Spend

Save on: lodging (camp or split a house), food (grocery + one restaurant meal daily), rental bike if you own one that works.

Don't skip: at least one marquee shuttle day (Whole Enchilada or Porcupine Rim), tire sealant (Moab sandstone eats sidewalls), enough water (3L minimum for any full ride).

A well-planned 4-day trip hits the big rides without draining the budget. Start with shuttle reservations, build the rest around them.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Moab mountain bike trip cost?

A 4-day Moab MTB trip costs $400 to $1,800 per person before airfare. Camp on BLM land, bring your own bike, and shuttle one day for around $440. Rent premium, stay at a mid-tier hotel, and shuttle 3 days for around $1,150. Premium hotel with daily shuttles pushes $1,900.

How much is a Whole Enchilada shuttle in Moab?

The Whole Enchilada Shuttle runs $35 to $45 per person depending on season, with peak spring pricing at the upper end. Other Moab shuttle operators like Coyote Shuttle, Hazard County, and Big Rack charge similarly — $35 to $50 per run across the classic trail lineup.

Which Moab bike shop has the best rentals?

Poison Spider Bicycles has the premium fleet — Santa Cruz, Yeti, and Specialized at $100 to $160 per day. Chile Pepper carries Trek and Specialized at $85 to $130. Moab Cyclery has the largest fleet at $75 to $120 and also runs shuttles with bundled discounts. All three are walk-to from Main Street lodging.

Can I camp for free near Moab?

Yes. Sand Flats Recreation Area has cheap camping with vault toilets and fire rings. Willow Springs and other BLM dispersed areas allow free camping with proper Leave No Trace practice. Sand Flats is closest to Porcupine Rim and fills up on peak weekends — get there early or reserve an improved site.

Is it cheaper to rent a bike in Moab or fly with my own?

If you own a 140mm+ trail or enduro bike, flying with it almost always beats four days of premium Moab rentals. Airline bike fees run $50 to $150 each way — round-trip totals come out ahead of $100 to $160 per day rentals across a 4-day trip. Hardtails and XC bikes struggle on Moab rock; don't bring one unless you know what you're doing.

When is the cheapest time to ride Moab?

Late March and early November are the value windows. Shuttles operate, hotel rates drop below peak April and October pricing, and trail conditions are often excellent. Summer is cheaper but the heat makes most rides impractical.

Do I need shuttles for every day in Moab?

No. Bar M / Moab Brands, Slickrock Trail, and Klondike Bluffs can all be ridden without a shuttle. Save shuttle days for the marquee descents — Whole Enchilada and Porcupine Rim are 90% of the reason riders come. One or two shuttle days is the common pattern.

How much should I tip my Moab shuttle driver?

Five to ten dollars per person per run is standard. Drivers haul your bike up dirt roads at 6am and manage logistics for the whole group — tip accordingly.
